Steve Piper
Specialist
Steve Piper is responsible for the principal modeling effort to forecast terrestrial exchange fluxes of the Earth’s carbon cycle regionally and globally by improving models calibrated retrospectively from 1981 to the present.
Activities
- Assess seasonal characteristics of carbon fluxes produced by the Biome-BGC and PEM models.
- Evaluate AVHRR- and MODIS-based vegetation indices and NPP produced by the PEM, with focus on the new GIMMS reanalysis.
- Compare predictions of existing Jena model with those of our existing SSC model, after re-aggregating source components to the SSC arrangement.
- Incorporate more realistic representation of 13C/12C into terrestrial source components.
- Modify oceanic source components of the SSC model particularly with respect to spatial variations in 13C/12C in surface layer.
- Construct dataset of interannually-varying oceanic temperature-dependent isotopic fractionation.
