Peter Guenther Specialist

Peter Guenther is responsible for the maintenance of the CO2 reference gas system of the Scripps CO2 Program. Since 1969 he has been the sole operator of the Program’s constant-volume mercury manometer, providing absolute calibration of atmospheric CO2 concentration and oceanic total CO2 measurements.

Activities

  • Operate constant-volume mercury manometer (CMM) for measurement of CO2 concentration of atmospheric CO2 reference gases.
  • Investigate performance of the CMM in relation to that of alternative calibration systems and instruments.
  • Maintenance of CMM for long-term stability.
  • Study of the calibration of long-term and historic data sets of CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere, oceans, and reference gases.

Education

  • B.A., Wesleyan University
  • M.S., University of California, San Diego
